FOTOROMANZO / ΦΩΤΟΡΟΜΑΝΤΖΟFotoromanzo is a publication featuring photographs printed on paper, produced in Berlin in small print runs (100 to 200 copies) and mailed to interested parties and potential readers. The goal is to publicize the photographic work of its creators and other photographers from the publisher’s circle. It is clear that this method of publicity has a limited reach. One of the goals (which has been partially achieved so far) is to be described as a “bilingual, periodic, intercontinental photography journal.” More than geographical dispersion, the typographical goal is a significant expansion of the scope of the photographs’ publication over time. The issues are intentionally distributed with the expectation that, decades later, some of them -perhaps worn and tattered- will find their way into the wider circles of the original recipients or perhaps end up at a flea market among old odds and ends.
The issues are thematic:
The first issue, is titled “CARNIVAL IN COLOGNE” with photografs of the bigest Carnival celebration in Europe
The concept for the second issue, themed “VERITAS” (“truth” / “Wahrheit”), as well as the subtitle texts, are by Nikos Mentis. The photographs, layout, and overall editing are by Dimitris Katsamakas.
The photograph on the back cover depicts the same person who appears throughout the rest of the issue, photographed 30 years ago.
The third issue is titled “VITAE” (“Lives” / “Leben”), and it is a fragmentary presentation of the photographic work of Lambros Kyriakou, a professional photographer who lives and works in Thessaloniki. Here we see photographs that his clients do not usually purchase.
Nikos Mentis made a valuable contribution to the selection from the photographer’s extensive body of independent work, as well as to the title of the issue.
Dimitris Katsamakas served as the overall editor of the publication.
